Connective Wellness

I'm Sheena Taggart and the founder of Connective Wellness Myofascial release.

In my early twenties I had two wonderful kids. Both required a c-section. Little did I know that was the straight jacket that slowly pulled my posture out. As I went through life I always picked jobs that would allow me to be with my kids as much as possible. Starting with Machinist technician before I had my kids, to doing welcome wagon, a dayhome, house cleaner, and Canada Post.  As time went by issues slowly popped up. Women's issues after the last c-section, migraines starting at 26, TMJ dysfunction at 27, sciatic issues at 30, shoulder issues by 35, and the start of weak knees with crepitus which prevented me from hiking.

I was always looking for a job that would suit me. Massage therapy popped into my brain while listening to commercials on the radio. By talking to my massage therapist I realized I could be more like a physiotherapist treating issues. I was never into doing relaxation massages.  While in my second year of schooling I started using silicone cups to cup myself while studying. I started rotating my hips and straightening out my back. This led me to finding a myofascial therapist.  All of a sudden I was getting results by leaps and bounds. I had been going to see a few physiotherapist therapists for 6 years, spending $3,000 (36 appointments!) a year and doing an hour of stretches and strengthening a day just to maintain what I had. I was never getting better.  I now know the reason why is they were never affecting the fascia system. My c-section scar had created a spider web of fascia restrictions throughout my body.  I also found out that the fascia system can hold physical as well as emotional traumas all the way from birth. The fascial system ended up being a straight jacket that just kept on getting tighter and tighter until the pain affected everything in my life.

I'm happy to report that I've changed my posture tremendously with the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach. I don't have sciatic issues anymore, my shoulders are nice and loose, my women's issues have cleared up and I haven't had a full-blown migraine in 2 years.

I know first-hand how difficult it can be to love to do something and not be able to do it the way you want. To always push through the pain and how difficult life can become when you're in constant pain. I feel better in my forties than I did in my twenties.

As soon as the covid flight restrictions came off I started my education in the John F Barnes Myofascial Release method in the United States.  I'm now classified as an Advanced Myofascial Release therapist and am the highest trained individual in Calgary.  So far my courses include:

  • Myofascial Release 1(X2)
  • Myofascial Release 2
  • Myofascial unwinding
  • Advanced myofascial unwinding
  • Myofascial rebounding (X2)
  • Healing seminar
  • Fascia-Pelvis myofascial release
  • Myofascial unwinding

  • Myofascial mobilization
  • Skills enhancements seminar
  • Therapy for the therapist seminar

  • Fascia cranium

I want to educate the public that there's another way. That the previous school of thought of “ no pain, no gain” or taking prescriptions to mask the pain are not a solution. To not accept that your unexplained pain is mental because fascia restrictions do not show up on any traditional tests. The fascia system is amazingly strong but requires very little pressure to release it.

I look forward to helping you discover the healing powers of myofascial release too.
